Text Box: Religious Education News

As a child I attended a small church and it was such a big part of my life.  My Grandparents donated a stained glass window when the church was built, and I always felt so proud when I walked past that window and saw their names on it.

There were Christmas parties, Easter egg hunts, CYO dances and so much more.  My Grandmother was a mainstay at church, and organized an annual fashion show, was a member of the Alter Rosary Society, hosted Circle meetings and ran a second hand store for the St. Vincent De Paul Society.  I feel such a part of that little church growing up.

I moved to El Paso as an adult, and began attending St. Raphael’s.  My Daughter also attended school there and my Mother was in the Legion of Mary and the Blue Army there.  It was a nice church, but I never felt a part of it because it was so large.

I began attending St. Matthew in 2004 when I moved to West El Paso.  I liked it Text Box: right away and wanted to become more involved, but I did not know where to start.  I attended the ACTS Retreat in 2009, and after the retreat I just knew I needed to give something back to God and to my Church.

I called the office and was told that the Catechism program needed help.  I met Jane Fuller at my ACTS Retreat, so I called her and attended a meeting and began teaching five year olds last year.  I loved it and wanted to do it again, and I talked so much about it that my daughter, Melissa, wanted to do it with me, so this year we are teaching six year olds, 22 of them, and they are wonderful.

              We love it.
