Text Box: Margie Marquez
My name is Margie Marquez and my husband is Alfredo. After 16 years of our married life we started getting involved in the church. I was a lector and Eucharistic minister, my husband and I together would teach baptismal classes and were coordinators of a Pre-Cana group in which we would sponsor couples that wanted to convalidate their marriages. Then the time came when our precious little girl Megan was going to start catechism. The director of the program invited me to a meeting with the intention of getting me interested in becoming a catechist. While at the meeting they started rehearsing the songs that they were going to teach the children, all this time I was just observing and all of a sudden I felt something rushing through my body which started from my head going all the way down to my toes, I had goose bumps on my arms and my body shivered. I drove home sobbing because I knew that this was a message from God. Needless to say I became a catechist to help my precious Megan and the community. We came to St. Matthew’s three years ago where Father David allowed us to continue with our ministries. I continue being a lector, and Eucharistic minister which I have done for 17 years now. My husband and I continue helping with the baptismal classes and sponsor couples that Text Box: want to convalidate their marriages which we have been doing for 15 years. We are supporters of the ACTS community, and of course, thanks to Jane Fuller, I continue being a catechist going on my 4th year even after my precious Megan did her First Holy Communion in May of 2011. It is very rewarding knowing that you are planting or helping water that little seed within the children so that they will want to learn more about God and their faith, and when you see the difference in them from the first day of class to the last day when you say goodbye to them expecting to see them the following year. Best of all is when you see them take the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time. The transformation is amazing.

“Pray God’s Blessing on you and all those you love”
