Text Box: I myself was confirmed as a baby so I never went through the type of program I was presenting. In preparing and presenting the material for my classes, I enjoyed the added benefit of learning so much more about the Catholic faith. I have continued to teach even though all of my children have finished the confirmation program. Although there have been evenings when I wonder why I am still doing it, they are far outshined by the times when I’ve seen how wondrous and beautiful in thoughts, words and deeds our teenagers can be when they are truly engaged in class. On those nights, I come home with such a feeling of joy and peace in knowing that they have truly understood the lesson and my hopes that it will have made a lasting impression. It has been a very rewarding and educational experience for me.
Text Box: When Jane Fuller called me on the phone over five years ago to ask me to teach Confirmation, she said “someone” had told I might be able to help her. I told her I would have get back to her after giving it some thought. Several things went through my head. I was worried that I wasn’t qualified. I had never been a teacher of anything before, much less a teacher about such an important thing as our faith. Jane assured me that the lessons would all be thought out in advance and that all I would have to do was to present them. That seemed easy enough. She told me they were changing the program so that I would be teaching every other Sunday for two hours. I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to get more involved at St. Matthew and, since I had children going through the Confirmation program, I would be doing it while they were in class. I realized I just couldn’t say no to this perfect opportunity.
