We began the beautiful season of Lent with a prayer service led by Father David. He spoke to the children about sharing the wonderful gifts God has given us. With that in mind we will be having denim Friday and classroom collections to benefit St. Charles Seminary and the Office of Vocations.
The Diocese of El Paso recently held the annual SEED Award dinner to acknowledge the many contributions of children, parents and teachers. Our third grade teacher, Mrs. Zara Williams, was the proud recipient of the coveted SEED award. Mrs. Williams holds a Bachelors degree from Albany State University in Early Childhood Education, a Masters degree in Educational Leadership/Supervision from Regents University and is currently working on her Doctorate degree. She is married to George who is a Captain and Nurse Anesthetist in the US Army. Mrs. Williams is also the proud mother of two children, George and Kinya, who are students at St. Matthew School.
The annual car raffle will be held on Friday, May 11 at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. A Jeep Wrangler will be auctioned off this year. This is our biggest fund raising event to collect money for our operating budget and is critical to our school. We would like to thank all the parishioners of St. Matthew for their generous support of this event. Tickets may be purchased at either the school office or the rectory.

Putting this suggestion into perspective, think about how much more meaningful a classic book such as “Gone With the Wind” becomes when you have some knowledge about the Civil War, including historical events and even social customs and mores of the times.  The same definitely holds true when it comes to reading the bible.

“Walking with God” helps readers see the “big picture” of the scriptures as a marvelous story, an epic adventure, telling of God’s plan of salvation history.  The authors emphasize that “the key to every good story is its plot, which brings together the details, events and characters (needed) to give the story its meaning and power”.  Continued on page 6
