Text Box: Eucharistic Ministy: The function of the Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist is to distribute Holy Communion, during Mass or by providing it to the sick or infirmed when an Bishop, Priest or Deacon is unavailable or impeded. Canon law permits that "Where the needs of the Church require and ministers are not available, lay persons, even though they are not lectors or acolytes, may supply certain of their functions, that is, exercise the ministry of the word, preside over liturgical prayer, and distribute Holy Communion, in accordance with the provisions of the law."
